In the Loralai district of Balochistan, the counterterrorism department (CTD) officers have killed 7 suspected terrorists soon after they entered the country from Afghanistan to attack a sensitive installation, a government statement said on Wednesday.

“The CTD Balochistan got credible source information that a large group of [probscribed] Balochistan Liberation Front terrorists [is] moving from Afghanistan in the general area of Kohar Dam [in] district Loralai and [they] are planning to attack a sensitive installation,” a CTD spokesman said, according to the statement.

The CTD conducted an operation at a compound in Kohar Dam. An exchange of fire ensued and seven militants were killed, while three others fled.

The spokesman said a cache of weapons was recovered from the compound. Four of the seven dead were identified as Sadam Hussain, Abdul Ghani, Abdul Ahad and Ameer Jan, he said.

Men from the CTD and other security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the area.

Kohar Dam is located between Loralai and Qillah Saifullah cities in Balochistan. It is just a few kilometres from Loralai University.

The spokesman said more raids were expected.

Situation in Afghanistan

The development comes nearly two weeks after the Taliban took over Afghanistan. When the country was under the Ashraf Ghani-led Kabul government, Pakistani officials repeatedly said Afghanistan’s soil was being used to launch attacks in Pakistan.

After the Taliban takeover, federal ministers Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Fawad Chaudary have said that the Afghan Taliban had assured Pakistan that they would not allow anyone to attack Pakistan from Afghanistan. A Voice of America report this week claimed that the Taliban have asked the banned TTP members to return to Pakistan in exchange for amnesty.
